Fifteen artists from Austria present works resulting from experiences in China–fun and delightfully insightful. Projects include a hip-hop video about looking for inspiring art in 798, two reinterpretations of the Chinese Whispers game (aka Telephone), a mobile temporary sculpture built upon a sanlunche (three-wheel bike), and enigmatic polaroids / photographs capturing revealing moments in China. Real Life Fairy Tales @ Beyond Art Space (until Feb 28, 2010)
National Art Museum of China (NAMOC) curator Liu Chunfeng brings together works by eleven female artists, including Peng Wei’s recent scholar rock series of suspended ink wash images on acrylic. This exhibition follows the heels of the Europalia culture festival in Belgium, including “Attitudes–Female Contemporary Art from China” organized by NAMOC.
The New Attitude of Image @ Tang Gallery (until Dec 5)
This exhibition attempts to tackle the question “What is painting?” through the interpretations of ten contemporary Chinese artists. Works on display include Liu Wei’s jarring installation of tv screens flashing lines and patterns, and a selection of aesthetically memorable paintings by Wang Xingwei.
